Total Gym 1800 Club Review

When I was asked to write a review of the Total Gym 1800 Club I was excited. I wanted to write this review because I not only own, and use this machine, but I believe in it. The Total Gym system is unlike any ordinary stationary gym you have ever used.

More Than Just a Muscle Machine

Of course, like any good home gym, the Total Gym 1800 Club has great strength training capabilities. You can do all of the ordinary arms, leg, ab, back, and shoulder exercises to develop each specific muscle group. The Total Gym 1800 Club is far more than a simple muscle-building machine, however.

On the Total Gym, you can tone and shape your body with Pilates and improve your cardio system with aerobics. The benefits of aerobics are pretty familiar for most people, and it is hard to argue the need for both strength training and aerobics to balance a fitness schedule and do the best for your body, but it is hard to find a single machine that can do both for you.

The Total Gym 1800 not only gives you both strength training and aerobics but even more special, it also has a special Pilates bar that lets you do the controlled Pilates movements that elevate any fitness regime to a whole new level. Pilates increases your circulation, posture, range of motion, and deep core strength. Athletes use Pilates to help increase their flexibility, and anyone with back, neck, or general joint pain can benefit greatly from including Pilates work in their daily fitness system.

What You Get With The Total Gym 1800 Club

Along with the unique slideboard and tower pulley system, you get:

  • Dip bars
  • Pilates bar,
  • Press-up bar
  • Wing attachment
  • Leg attachment
  • Ab-crunch board

These elements all work with the Total Gym system to give you every exercise option imaginable in one, trim station. With the Total Gym 1800 Club, and its attachments you can do hundreds of exercises, and an accompanying DVD that has two workouts included will help you get into the flow of the Total Gym’s abilities. To get even more of an idea about how to use the Total Gym, there are optional DVD sets available that include more workouts. There is even a dedicated Pilates DVD with several workouts to help you learn the many possible ways to include Pilates in your routine.

Compact Design, and Folding Storage

Live in a small home? No problem. Want a home gym you can get the most use out of, but slide away out of sight when you’re done? No problem. There is no single home gym that can be stored in as small a space as the Total Gym 1800 Club. You can literally fold it up in a slender piece no bigger than the base, and slide it under a bed. Rolling end pieces let you move it easily on any floor surface including deep pile rugs, and it can stand upright in a closet, corner, or lay down flat and slip under your bed. However, if you have space as I do, you will never want to put it away. Mine stays put so I can use it whenever I want without opening or moving it.

In the beginning, it may seem like there are a lot of adjustments that always needing to be made. However, once you get used to the system, and learn how to plan your workouts so they move more fluidly from one to the other that fades away. Most people who initially have an issue with needing to change levels, or add/take away elements of the machine are used to a more common station-relegated home gym. However, the many capabilities of the Total Gym for everything from strength training to aerobics and even Pilates makes the Total Gym 1800 Club the most versatile home gym on the market.

Women with long hair should tie it up, or be careful to keep it from getting caught in the pulleys when laying flat on the backboard. There is no danger of catching fingers or other body parts when using normally, but hair can fall under the board and catch. This isn’t a serious problem, but it does hurt (experience talking).

Going the Distance

It can be scary buying a big piece of equipment and having to wonder if the company that builds it will be there if you need them. Total Gym has been making incredible workout equipment for 11 years and is still going strong. The Total Gym 1800 Club comes with a lifetime warranty on the framework, and a one-year warranty on moving parts. I’ve had my Total Gym for over 4 years now, and have never had a single issue with it.

Extra Extras

The Total Gym 1800 Club comes with an extra exercise mat to keep the machine from slipping on hard wood, linoleum or tile flooring, easy to read a flip chart for a quick review of exercises, and the DVD workout disc.

What Other Users Have to Say about the Total Gym 1800 Club

“I love it. It works great and folds up beautifully. Be careful with your hands when you’re folding it up though, I got pinched.”

“I found it a little clumsy at first, but then watched the DVD workouts and really got a feel for how to make the transitions and it got a lot easier. It is a great product.”

“I don’t have to get dressed up and drive to the gym anymore. The Total Gym 1800 Club does it all.”

“I love my new Total Gym 1800. My mom has one from years ago and it is still going strong. I just wish I hadn’t waited so long to get my own.”

“I can’t believe how great it is. I really thought it would be “light-weight” compared to a big weight stack type of machine, but the Total Gym 1800 Club is unbeatable.”

In Conclusion

Don’t be fooled by its simple looks, and sleek design. The Total Gym 1800 Club is a powerful workout tool that will give you everything you could hope for from a station system, and much more. My husband even uses it, and he thought it would be too “girly” because it doesn’t look like your everyday home gym. It isn’t, it’s much, much better, and now he’s sold too. It’s great for beginners and advanced users alike, and you won’t believe how many possible exercises you can do with it. What’s even better is it will not break your budget to get it, and there is literally NO assembly required.
